As 2020 comes to a close and “Jack Frost starts nipping at your nose,” it’s time to protect your skin from harsh winter weather.
Although COVID-19 may cancel your ski trip plans and keep you inside more, you can still keep your skin hydrated and vibrant this winter. By wearing protective clothing, moisturizing and eating and drinking right, you can keep your skin healthy all winter long.
Here at Premier Medical Esthetics, we aim to help you keep your skin beautiful, all year long!
Here are some tips to keep your skin glowing this holiday season and through the blustery months ahead:
Exfoliate & Moisture – Don’t let dead skin cells build up on your face and hands this winter. Gently exfoliate your skin, so that it is better equipped to soak in moisturizer. Help to lock in that moisture by applying a quality cream (oil-based is best during the winter) to your face and entire body as soon as you have showered or bathed. Be sure to gently dab your skin with a towel first, but then leave your skin slightly damp when applying the moisturizer.
Don’t Skip the Sunscreen – Even though warm summer days are a thing of the past now, it’s important to still make sunscreen part of your daily routine. Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays by applying moisturizers with built in SPF. Don’t forget about your lips too! Choose a lip balm that contains an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your lips and keep them kissable all winter long!
Warm, Not Hot – Cold, blustery winter days may make you want to jump into a steaming hot shower or bath to warm up. Soaking in water that is extremely hot can actually be bad for your skin because it strips natural oils that help keep your skin hydrated and healthy. So, instead, use warm water to shower and bathe, and keep your baths to a maximum of ten minutes.
Protect Your Hands – Your hands are one of the first areas to show dryness in the winter. Be sure to wear mittens or gloves when you go outside and apply a non-greasy moisturizer after you wash your hands. If you suffer from dry hands, wear rubber gloves while doing dishes and keep a bottle of your favorite moisturizer by the sink as a reminder.
Hydrate – Proper hydration is very important for your skin and overall health year-round. When your skin is dehydrated, it becomes more vulnerable to damage. Drinking plenty of water and eating foods rich in fluid, such as soups, fruits and vegetables, are some of the best ways to combat dry, damaged skin.
