We offer a variety of spa services, including IPL Laser Treatment Therapy which can transform your body’s skin.
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is the application of light rays to the skin for the treatment of various skin conditions. The light is applied in various wavelengths across the affected area, almost like a photo flash. Acne scars, wrinkles, broken capillaries, pigmentation and hair removal are just some of the conditions that IPL therapy can help resolve over the course of treatment.
What Does IPL Therapy Treat?
• Broken blood vessels
• Sun spots
• Age spots
• Stretch marks
• Acne scars
• Unwanted hair
How Does IPL Laser Treatment Therapy Work?
Intense Pulsed Light penetrates down to the second layer of your skin, the dermis. This process does not harm the top layer of your skin, the epidermis. The word laser is actually an acronym for “Light Amplification Stimulation Emission of Radiation.” A selective process called photothermolysis is used during laser treatment. Unwanted tissue is heated and destroyed with a laser without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. Pigment cells in your skin absorb the light energy applied which is then converted into heat. The heat destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles and other unwanted spots. IPL therapy can also target the melanin content in pigmentation, the hemoglobin in broken blood vessels, and the color content in unwanted hair.
Who is a Good Candidate for IPL Therapy?
IPL therapy is ideal for individuals with light to medium complexions looking to improve their skin tone, sun damage, fine lines/wrinkles or capillary inflammation. Multiple wavelengths are used during an IPL treatment, so it can be adjusted for a spectrum of skin tones. Fair skin is relatively elastic and “freckle-prone” which shows the greatest skin improvement after treatment. IPL therapy can be used anywhere on your body however, it may not work as well on uneven areas of skin. It is not recommended for people with darker skin tones due to being more prone to blistering and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is also more effective on dark-colored hair than it is on light hair. Due to potential risks, it is important, before receiving IPL therapy, to discuss with your esthetician any medications that you take on a regular basis. Pregnant women should not receive IPL therapy.
